The Worm Farm Project Group

Introducing the Worm Farmers - Olivia, Joshua, Jeremy, Gordon, Zion, Oscar, Deacon, James, Vrinda (hiding her eyes at the thought of worms!!), Felix, Nathan, Asher and Isaac.

After being inspired during our recent visit to The Waste Zone at Henderson Refuse Centre, we are working towards creating our very own worm farm at school to reduce the amount of food waste going into the general waste bins and ending up in the landfill.

Our initial questions/wonderings are -

How DO you make a worm farm?
What can worms eat and what can't they?
Facts about tiger worms.
The life cycle of a worm.
How many worms do you need to start a worm farm?
What do you do with worm wee?

So far we have learnt how to research, make notes and explored what makes a good, 'googleable' question.  We have also learnt how to send an email.

We are really, really lucky that Joshua's Dad is going to come into school next week to build a worm farm with us.  We are going to use an old bath and make a base and lid for it.  We decided today that we are going to need a Measurement workshop because we think we might need to be able to measure accurately so that the lid isn't too big or too small.  Kerry will run that for us next week.
